TWERK 101: Power, Play, and the Art of the Booty Pop

Describe the workshop, lesson focus and goals:
TWERK 101 is a beginner-friendly, empowering dance workshop centered on movement, expression, and body celebration. We'll begin with a grounding affirmation writing activity, move into a warm-up to activate the body and glutes, and then spend an hour learning foundational twerking and gogo-style dance techniques. This workshop introduces students to sensual movement as a form of personal expression and performance. The goal is to build confidence, connect with our bodies, and create space for joy and liberation through booty-focused dance. Expect fun, sweat, and a fierce vibe.

Learning Objectives:
Students will learn basic twerk techniques including isolations, posture, and controlled movement. They’ll explore gogo-style layering and footwork, and practice simple combinations to apply skills with rhythm and style. Students will also reflect on how movement can affirm their identity, sensuality, and power, and share self-written affirmations with the group to close the session.
